Locomotive reversals rarely happen at bigger stations with multiple locomotives at their disposal in their trip sheds. The locomotive is simply changed. The rake arrives, the oncoming locomotive is detached and a fresh locomotive is attached at the other end. The rake departs with the fresh loco, and the detached locomotive gets shunted to the trip shed.
Also the case of Madgaon is different, you see most KR trains are given decent slacks before entering MAO, also they are detained/controlled at MAO for crossings etc. Anyways most train halt at MAO for...

So, both of you justified in your statements! Due to oncoming traffic the reversal will take a lot more time. Existing train time tables will have to be adjusted.
