The story of a lost railway
Kundala Valley Railway. The current Wayanad landslide triggers comparasion with the great flood of 1924 [Malayalam year 1099] where rains lashed out for 3 weeks straight and the Periyar river swallowed everything in it's wake. It led to tremendous loss of lives and also, the loss of a railway system. Initially built in 1902,as a bull driven monorail, mainly for transporting tea, it was converted to a Narrow gauge railway sometime later. Hardly a few images survive of this system.
