Officials conducted a light engine trial run to assess the bridge's structural integrity, and reported that infrastructure works are likely to be completed within two months, followed by trial runs. The new bridge replaces the over 100-year-old Pamban rail bridge, which had been weakened by seawater erosion. Khandelwal also mentioned ongoing discussions regarding track works on the Rameswaram-Dhanushkodi line, contingent on land allocation by the state government.
