Currently, trains operate on the 212 km rail section at a speed of 70-80 km/h, taking 4.5-5 hours to reach Bathinda from Ambala. But, with the complete doubling of the track, this journey will be completed in just three hours. This doubling will save passenger time and enable the operation of new trains like Vande Bharat and Shatabdi. It will make it easier for passengers to travel from Bathinda to Ambala and then to Delhi and other parts of the country. The project, costing ₹2500 crores, began in 2019. The Ambala-Rajpura rail section under the Ambala Rail Division is already double-tracked. The doubling project of the approximately 173 km rail section from Rajpura to Bathinda was prepared in 2019 with a budget of ₹2500 crores. Under this project, the laying of the railway track was carried out over a distance of 18.8 km between Rajpura and Daoukalan stations, which was commissioned for train movement on September 17, 2021. In the second phase, 28.80 km from Kulseri to Sekha was laid and commissioned on February 28, 2022. In the third phase, 8.35 km of track from Bathinda to Bathinda Cant Railway Station was commissioned on August 8, 2022.
