On Sunday night, a herd of elephants caused significant disruption to train operations on the Howrah-Mumbai route, impacting services for over 10 hours. due to a lack of rakes. Many passengers missed the Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express due to delays in the Ahmedabad and Sambaleshwari Express trains. This resulted in a commotion at Tatanagar station on Monday morning. Additionally, the Azad Hind Express from Howrah to Pune and the Jagdalpur Sambaleshwari Express were also delayed, as they were held up near Chakradharpur due to the elephants, causing their arrival in Howrah to be delayed. Trains from Hatia, Dhanbad, and other stations that were scheduled to pass through Bandamunda were also halted. The Odisha Forest Department informed the Chakradharpur Railway Division of the presence of a herd of 23 elephants near the railway line, prompting railway authorities to take precautions and halt train operations. The movement of 13 trains was affected in the Chakradharpur division overnight, including at Manoharpur, Goilkera, and Rourkela. The Mumbai Mail, travelling from Howrah to Tatanagar, was also stopped at Ghatsila. Meanwhile, trains that had already passed Tatanagar were held at various stations within the Chakradharpur division. On October 15th, a herd of elephants had entered the railway line near Bandamunda cabin, resulting in a freight train fatally striking an elephant calf. Another calf sustained injuries. The Forest Department subsequently detained the freight train's loco pilot, who was later released after railway officials recorded his statement. The elephant herd, enraged by the death of their calf, has been continuously circling near the railway line, disrupting train operations.

Sunday raat, Howrah-Mumbai route pe elephants ka jhund aaya, jisse 10 ghante se zyada train service bandh rahi. Isse Tatanagar station pe bahut dhoom macha, kaafi trains cancel ya delay hui. ki wajah se delay ho gayi. Ahmedabad aur Sambaleshwari Express late hone se kaafi passengers ka Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express chhoot gaya. Is wajah se Monday subah Tatanagar station pe dhoom macha. Howrah se Pune jaane wali Azad Hind Express aur Jagdalpur se Sambaleshwari Express bhi delay hui, kyunki elephants ki wajah se dono trains raat bhar Chakradharpur Mandal ki line pe khari rahi, jisse Howrah pahunchne mein delay hua. Hatia, Dhanbad aur dusre stations se Bandamunda se jaane wali trains ko bhi rok diya gaya. Odisha Forest Department ne Chakradharpur Mandal Railway ko 23 elephants ka jhund line ke paas ghoomne ki khabar di thi. Isse railway officials ne saavdhani rakhte hue trains bandh kar di. Chakradharpur Mandal me raat bhar Manoharpur, Goilkera aur Rourkela me 13 trains ka chalna band raha. Howrah se Tatanagar aa rahi Mumbai Mail ko Ghatsila me rok diya gaya. Is waqt Tatanagar se guzar chuki trains Chakradharpur Mandal ke alag-alag stations pe khari thi. 15 October ko Bandamunda cabin ke paas elephants ka jhund railway line pe aaya tha. Isse freight train se takkar ke wajah se ek elephant calf ki maut ho gayi thi. Dusra calf zakhmi ho gaya tha. Iske baad Forest Department ne freight train ke loco pilot ko pakad liya tha, jinko baad me railway officials ka statement lene ke baad chhod diya gaya. Elephant herd apne calf ki maut se angry hoke continuously line ke aas-pas ghoom rahe hai, jisse train chalna bandh ho raha hai.

कोल्हान के एलीफेंट जोन में रेल लाइन के नीचे बनेगा सबवे

To protect elephants from being hit by trains, a plan to build a subway beneath the railway line in the Kolhan elephant zone has been proposed. The plan emerged from a meeting between the Chakradharpur Railway Division and the Forest Department. Both parties agreed to share information regarding elephant movement near...

the line. The speed limit for trains in the elephant zone (Goilkera-Manoharpur, Kokpada-Chakuliya, and Chandil-Gundavihar) from 10 PM to 6 AM has been reduced to 50 km per hour, allowing for swift train stoppage upon elephant sighting. This safety measure follows the deaths of over 18 elephants and their calves since 2017 due to trains on the Howrah-Mumbai route. The subway plan was initially conceived four to five years ago in the Chakradharpur division, but due to the vigilance of loco pilots and railway personnel, the lack of accidents prompted the project to be put on hold. Senior DCM Aditya Chaudhary from the Chakradharpur Railway Division highlighted the cooperation between the Railway and Forest Departments to ensure elephant safety. The urgency for this initiative stemmed from an incident on October 14th when a baby elephant was struck and killed by a goods train near Bandomunda. The loco pilots were arrested by the Forest Department, leading to protests from railway staff and prompting their release after 15 hours. On the Tata-Badampahar route, near Haldipokhur station, three elephants were spotted near the tracks. As a precaution, the train speed was reduced and the Forest Department advised the use of loud horns to deter elephants.

Kolhan ke elephant zone mein, railway line ke niche ek subway banaya jaayega, taaki hathis line par chadhne ke badle subway ke through aawajahi kar sake. Chakradharpur Mandal Railway aur Van Vibhag ki meeting mein ye plan banaya gaya hai. Dono parties hathis ke line ke aas-paas wichaaran ki soochna aadan-pradaan...

karne par sahmati banee hai. Wahi, loco pilots ko fir se aadesh diya gaya hai ki elephant zone (Goilkera-Manoharpur, Kokpada-Chakuliya, aur Chandil-Gundavihar) mein raat 10 baje se subah 6 baje tak trains ki speed 50 km/h hi rakhen. Isse hathis ko dekhkar tatkal train roki ja sakegi. Yeh hai karan Chakradharpur rail mandal mein Bandomunda ke paas 14 October ki raat malgadi ki chapet mein aakar hathis ke bacche ki mout hui thi. Isse van vibhag ne malgadi duty Tatanagar ke dono loco pilots Manoj Kumar aur Kaviraj Kumar ko giraftar kar liya tha.
