The new track, part of a doubling project between Barlai and Laxmibai Nagar railway stations, was completed on December 14th. After the completion, the track was closed for train movement and local residents started using it. Following the incident, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav ordered a probe by the DRM after being informed of the incident by Cabinet Minister Tulsiram Silawat.

the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Western Circle, R.K. Sharma. The inspection will involve checking the railway track, bridges, culverts, approaches, and a motor trolley inspection will be conducted between intermediate stations. The public has been advised not to go near the doubled railway line from morning to night and to keep their pets away from the railway track. Due to the double-tracking work, the Western Railway has taken a long block between Barlai and Lakshmibai Nagar. Several trains have been rerouted via Fatehabad, while others have been cancelled or short-terminated. Train operations on this route will resume after the CRS inspection.

The remaining work for double-tracking is underway. This double-tracking project is being implemented in three phases, with the first two phases (Ujjain to Barlai, 52 km) already completed. The final phase involves double-tracking from Barlai to Indore. Once complete, trains will no longer need to stop for crossings, resulting in faster travel times and improved efficiency for trains traveling to Indore.
