This incident marks the latest suspension of the train, previously halted in 2019 after the Pulwama terror attack, and in the past, due to incidents like the Babri Masjid demolition, the attack on the Parliament, and Benazir Bhutto's assassination. Launched in 1976 under the Shimla Agreement, the train was initially operated from Attari to Lahore, with passengers changing trains at Attari. It was later operated from Old Delhi after tensions arose in Punjab. In 2007, a bomb blast on the train near Panipat led to the deaths of 68 people. The investigation revealed that the perpetrators were motivated by anger over attacks on temples in India.
