This has led to residents of Patna, Danapur, and Bihta choosing to travel by train instead of buses. The extension of the Tatanagar-Chhapra Express to Thawe has also impacted the number of buses traveling from Jamshedpur to Siwan. According to Ram Uday Singh, president of the Jamshedpur Bus Owners Welfare Association, there has been a drop of over 500 passengers on these routes daily. Before the train extensions, 12 buses traveled from Jamshedpur to Ara and Buxar, but now only eight remain. Similarly, the extension to Thawe has pushed two out of four buses on the Siwan route to the brink of closure. The difference in fares between trains and buses, with train fares being significantly cheaper, is a major factor in the shift to train travel. For instance, the general class fare for the Ara and Buxar train is 190 rupees and sleeper class is 350 rupees, while buses charge 600 rupees. The Thawe train fare is 215 rupees for general class and 385 for sleeper class, whereas buses charge 600 rupees.
